We currently have a fleet of mountain bikes for adults and children available for purchase, and a large selection of electric bikes ready for you to rent or purchase. All of the bikes are new and are being taken care of by our bike mechanic before and after our trips.

GUIDED WALKING TOURS IN TÓRSHAVN

For 90-120 minutes, our guide will take you around perhaps the smallest capital city in the world and tell you stories dating back to the Viking Age up to the present time. Østrøm Tours is a local tour and bike rental company based in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands. We specialize in guided walking tours, e-bike tours, and premium bike rentals for travelers exploring the Faroe Islands. At Østrøm Tours, we are combining our roots in Faroese retail with our newfound passion for culture, history and sustainable adventures. For almost 27 years, we have grown into one of the largest retail companies on the Faroe Islands. We have served locals and visitors in our stores, and now, we are inviting you to come with us to experience our islands.

 

As of 2026, we have 15 departments around the country. Our wider retail universe includes 8 departments in SMS, the Faroe Islands’ leading shopping center. 3 stores can also be found in our newly opened location in Runavík, as well as a men’s clothing store in Klaksvík. Our newest passion project in Tórshavn is Østrøm, Sirri and Sport24 Outdoor, where we invite visitors to experience Faroese culture, craftsmanship and modern design. In addition to our physical stores, we also operate Skalkur.fo, one of the largest online stores in the country. The website merges our branches into one single platform and allows our customers easy access to inspiration while browsing and shopping online.

YOUR FIRST FAROESE EXPERIENCE

FIND US IN ØSTRØM

Østrøm is one of the oldest industrial buildings on the Faroe Islands. Built in 1887 as a fish breeding factory by a Swedish entrepreneur named Öström, the company struggled financially and was declared bankrupt only a few years later. In 1894, the property was taken over by the Lützen family of the Faroe Islands, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the building’s long history. From that point on, Østrøm became an important part of local business life and reflected the changing needs of Faroese society.

Situated near the harbour in central Tórshavn, the sturdy industrial building has served many different purposes over the decades. It has functioned as a production facility, warehouse, and trading hub, and at various times housed a bakery, food production, storage for imported goods, and other commercial activities linked to the maritime economy. Its location made it ideal for merchants and suppliers connected to fishing, shipping, and local trade, and the recognisable structure became a familiar landmark for both residents and visiting sailors. Because of its size and location, Østrøm also played its role during the Second World War, and served as a barracks and storage for the British army and quartermaster.

Today, Østrøm has been revitalised as a lively commercial and cultural hub. The new operators — Sport 24 Outdoor, Sirri, and Østrøm — have transformed the historic building into a modern one-stop shop for tourists and adventurers. Visitors can now explore Faroese fashion, wool products, and local design alongside outdoor clothing and professional equipment suited for the islands’ rugged nature. By combining heritage, shopping, and practical travel needs under one roof, Østrøm continues its tradition as a gathering place for commerce while offering a contemporary experience to locals and visitors alike.
